Gaby is the daughter of the scientist and American collaborator Udo Teller that defected from German at the end of WWII and now has vanished. They are chased by KGB agent Illya Kuryakin but they succeed to escape. Soon Napoleon Solo's chief Saunders discloses that Gaby's uncle Rudi works for the wealthy Alexander and his wife Victoria Vinciguerra and Udo might be secretly building a nuclear weapon for them. Napoleon Solo is forced to team-up with Illya and Gaby and they go to Rome to investigate.

Very decent throwback and homage to the 1960s cool spy. Many complain about the lack of spectacular action sequences but they are missing the point. This is not supposed to be a modern blockbuster action thriller, but a stylish, tongue-in-cheek adventure.<br/><br/>I had no problem with the casting of Cavill or Hammer in the two leads; they were perfectly appropriate. However, I thought the introduction of the Alicia Vikander spy character was forced and unnecessary and not keeping in the spirit of the original in which the ever changing female character was not a professional spy.<br/><br/>Great care was taken to ensure that the 1960s was accurately represented except for the fact that no one smoked. In 1963, over 50% of the adult population smoked. But, I understand the reason for this seemingly glaring omission. And that aside, you really do feelif you were transported back to the era of JFK's Camelot.<br/><br/>The only othe flaws for me were the lack of a memorable central villain and the uderuse of Hugh Grant's Waverly.<br/><br/>Anyone who wants to see a spy movie the way they used to be done back in that genre's 1960s heyday will not be disappointed. However those expecting a modern day balls to the wall action flick might be. Overall, I enjoyed one of my rare visits to the movie theater to see this.
Guy Ritchie is an amazing director. Keen eye on details. He's a perfectionist when it comes to 19th-20th-century world detailing. The movie has amazing music and really well-directed chase sequences which will definitely put you to the edge!<br/><br/>Take the wit and humor from sherlock Holmes and put it into a bond movie. Very subtle and humorous stereotypical references from the cold war era: Americans using shitty technology, Russians with simpler smarter tech. The fear Gulag (Siberia)… All these makes it seem so much immersed into the cold war times!<br/><br/>Go watch it!
The film is nothing but a sensuous rush of snappy period costumes, elegant beauties, dapper men, kinetic action and so-so quips, and because Ritchie seems even less concerned with story than usual, that blinkered approach very nearly works.
The film is based on the television series of the same name that ran on NBC from 1964 to '68. The series was an espionage adventure about two secret agents, Napoleon Solo (<a href="/name/nm0001816/">Robert Vaughn</a>) and Illya Kuryakin (<a href="/name/nm0564724/">David McCallum</a>) who worked for an organization named the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) The series was different from most other spy series of the time in that the agents were not acting on behalf of any country or government, but a private organization that was dedicated to fighting crime and evildoers. This was evidenced by the fact that the two agents on the series were an American (Solo) and a Russian (Kuryakin) working together during the Cold War. Their primary antagonist was a criminal network knownTHRUSH which was dedicated to taking over the world. No. No, but some extra information about some of the characters are shown during the credits.
